Un italiano in Islanda

Molte persone che si avvicinano al mondo scandinavo, prima o poi cadono nella rete islandese. In altre parole, rimangono catturati dal fascino di questa nazione nordica insulare. I motivi possono essere i più svariati, ma generalmente si tratta dell’irresistibilità esercitata dalla tradizione letteraria del Paese; pensiamo, ad esempio, alle saghe medievali. A queste si può accedere in traduzione, italiana o inglese, ma il piacere estetico che offre la lettura dell’islandese originale è tutta un’altra cosa. Ed è spesso per questa “tutt’altra cosa” che molti si avvicinano allo studio della lingua islandese. Il bello dello studio di questa lingua moderna, è che offre un accesso quasi immediato ai testi composti sette-ottocento anni fa, in pieno medioevo islandese. A questo proposito, tuttavia, esistono numerose “misconceptions”, fomentate dallo zelo ingenuo delle guide turistiche o di articoli on-line curati da viaggiatori più entusiasti per la natura islandese, che non per la lingua.
